Their tagline says it all, “Because sometimes you want a beer. But Also Don’t.”
Self Care produces some of the highest quality NA craft beer in the game. I’ve been consistently enjoying their beers for almost 2 years as of this writing, and don’t plan to stop, unless they do, so please don’t stop. .
After placing my first orders, I immediately noticed that Self Care does things a little differently, and the first thing that caught my attention was how they communicated with me.
I’m not talking about timely reminders about shipping and all that stuff, I mean they do that very well, but I’m talking about the extra stuff they don’t need to do.
For example…they have inclement weather shipping policies to get you the freshest beer possible. Extreme cold temps can freeze beer, even more so without alcohol present, and hot weather can make beers expand and even start a second fermentation, both of which are bad for obvious reasons.
“You’ll shrap your eye out kid”. – Someone who opened bulging beer, probably
One of my orders over the summer, some of the cans expanded and had some major bulging. I emailed them to see if that was cause for concern. They asked me to shoot a few pictures to confirm, and they said it looked more like shipping damage and not exposure to extreme heat, but to let me know how things went.
I safely opened my beers and I’m happy to say I didn’t shrap my eye out!
However, as a token of appreciation for simply receiving damaged cans, they doubled up on my Care Coins (more on this later) for that purchase, and this is just one example of how Self Care conducts business. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to hear that other fans have received the same experience.
The Vision
Nobody wants to drink an unmemorable non-alcoholic beer and if you’re drinking something from Self Care, this will never be the case.
They believe that a NA craft beer should taste just as good as a traditional craft beer where delicate hop aromas and nuanced grain characteristics can shine through without sacrificing flavor.
To do this, they are essentially reinventing the proverbial beer wheel, while learning and experimenting with each new batch as they go.
Rather than apply a one size fits all approach like many old school NA brewers, they are creating proprietary systems for each style of beer they brew.
The Self Care Piggy Bank (Care Coins)
Earlier, I mentioned that I got double care coins on a purchase that took damage during shipping. These coins aren’t just some BS rewards program that leads to nothing, these will earn you free beer, discounts, and swag (soon to come).
Every time you make a purchase, you’ll earn one care coin for every dollar spent in your dabbler piggy bank, so make sure to activate it to start earning. They’ll even hook you up with 25 care coins just for activating your piggy bank, so look for the link off to the right hand side of the home page.
What if you could double your earnings? Well you’re in luck, because you can, with Care Club.
You’re So Fucking Special (Care Club)
That’s right, I’ve been special for almost two years, now it’s your turn to join Care Club and become a double dabbler:
- Free shipping (beer ain’t cheap to ship)
- First dibs – try new beer first with early access
- Last dibs – exclusive access to low stock
- Double rewards
- More stuff to come as the program expands
The Beers
You will not be disappointed with Self Care beers! I’ve tried most of their lineup and I keep coming back because the quality is just that good.
One thing many NA beers lack, other than taste, is aroma. I no longer drink traditional beers to avoid alcohol, but when I did, I loved hoppy, dank beers, and the first few store bought NA beers I tried (that shall not be named) were severely lacking in this department.
This all changed when I tried Freak Flag Hazy IPA. I’d put this beer up against any traditional hazy IPA, and some may be hard pressed to tell the difference.
It looks, smells and drinks like any great hazy IPA I’ve tried in my former life. I honestly get excited to pour one in a glass every time I crack a can!
Even this beer writer agrees after trying forty different NA beer brands for dry January 2022.
Because they are constantly coming up with new recipes on old favorites, while simultaneously coming up with new batches, you’re best off bookmarking their beer page and checking back frequently. They brew in small batches, so you have to order when you see what you want or it might be gone.
I’ve enjoyed IPA’s, pilsners, pale ales, darks, seasonals and specialty beers over the last few years at Self Care, and I’m always excited to see what’s new, and trust me, there’s always something new brewing…see what I did there!
If you’re signed up for their email list, which I highly recommend, you’ll always be in the loop for new stuff, and exclusive access before beer hits store shelves.
If you live in Washington State, you can even have NA beer dropped off on your porch, I mean who doesn’t want that?!
Other Stuff
Nobody reads shipping pages, but I promise you Self Care’s page is super informative and not boring, so read it here.
Next, read the inclement weather policy because it’s always really hot or really cold somewhere, and you always want the freshest beer your money can buy, right!
And that’s really about it…If you’re looking to try a new NA craft brewery, you really can’t go wrong with Self Care from Three Magnets Brewing Co.
Cheers!
